Honestly, we didn’t know what to write about this week. We thought about a couple of topics – ‘CBD & Mindfulness,’ ‘The role and influence of cannabis on the music of Beastie Boys,’ ‘New strains in the world of hemp CBD,’ and ‘A brief history of hemp’. But let’s be frank here, besides the Beastie Boys articles, those all sound rather drab. Instead, let’s talk about movies. Specifically our top 3 movies to smoke either our hemp CBD pre-rolls or our light THC pre-rolls to.

Quick note before we jump in – we didn’t pick the standard stoner classics. There’s a lot out of great ones out there – from Cheech & Chong, to Pineapple Express, to Half Baked, to Harold & Kumar. Instead, we choose movies that we hold dear and movies that we feel are enhanced by cannabis or CBD. So without too much fanfare, let’s dive in:

Back to the Future

Is the best movie to watch a little high or relaxed on some CBD? Maybe. But is this one of the best movies of all time? Yes, definitely. What is there not to like about this movie. Huey Lewis’ ‘Power of Love’ is a driving force behind the soundtrack. Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover, & Thomas F. Wilson absolutely crush this movie. And Deloreans…Deloreans! A lot of people recommend time travel movies since they can be profoundly complex and highlighting that with cannabis is an amazing experience (check out ‘Primer’ for that kind of movie), but we want you to get down to our level. Time travel doesn’t need to be heavy or deep or scary, time travel can be fun. We need more movies like this and Hot Tub Time Machine in our lives.

Fistful of Dollars

How do you not put a Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western on a list like this. Think about it – it takes place outside in the desert, slow tracking shots of large expansive land, a mellow pacing, moments of deep reflection, and a weird assortment of people speaking multiple languages and then being dubbed over. It’s a strange yet beautiful clash of chaos. When a bit stoned, watching the dubbing can really throw you for a loop. The whole thing was shot without sound and then later in post they would dub over everyone. This meant Clint Eastwood would be speaking in English, but his co-stars in Spanish or Italian. No one’s lips sync up, but the beauty of this genre is undeniable. If you have a chance to watch it on 70mm, take the opportunity. Smoke up a little beforehand and then sit back and enjoy the stunning scenery.

Interstellar

We said above that we should make time travel fun and man, Interstellar is fun, just not in your typical fun sense. Interstellar is fun in a science is super neat, we’re going to expand your mind, don’t be afraid to learn something new kind of way. Relativity, physics, fourth and fifth-dimensions. Man, science is amazing and it’s wonderful to see it interplay with jaw-dropping acting, wonderful direction, and stunning photography. Get the highest resolution copy you can and put it on the biggest screen you can find. Smoke and be prepared to have your mind blown.

Baraka

Originally we stated that this list would be our top 3 movies to smoke to, and it is, but we wanted to throw in a little something extra – our favorite movie to watch after consuming psychedelics (specifically mushrooms). Baraka has no words. It originally played as an IMAX movie where it starts at dawn and travels the world over 24 hours. In it you experience everything from indigenous tribes completing traditional dances and rituals to the chaos of massive cities and modern culture. They focus on these tight shots of people’s faces from all over the world. As your brain is opening up new neural pathways, watching a movie like Baraka helps to reinforce the concept that we’re all one experiencing the same consciousness subjectively. When you turn to look at your friend after the movie, you’ll see all those faces there too. That’s when you’ll realize we’re all connected.
